History of AWS

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a collection of digital infrastructure services that developers can leverage when building their applications. It was launched in 2002 as a way for Amazon to manage its own internal IT infrastructure. In 2006, AWS introduced its first public-facing services, including the Simple Queue Service (SQS) and the Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2).

Since its launch, AWS has grown significantly and now offers over 175 services covering a wide range of categories, including compute, storage, networking, database, analytics, machine learning, security, mobile, and the Internet of Things (IoT).

AWS has also established itself as a leader in the cloud computing market, with a 32% market share as of 2021. It has a large and diverse customer base, including startups, enterprises, government agencies, and nonprofits.

In addition to its core infrastructure services, AWS has also introduced a number of high-level services that make it easier for developers to build and deploy applications. These include the AWS Lambda serverless computing platform, the Amazon API Gateway, and the AWS CloudFormation infrastructure as code service.

AWS has also made a number of acquisitions over the years to expand its capabilities and offerings. Some notable acquisitions include Elemental Technologies (2017), which added video processing and delivery capabilities to AWS; CloudEndure (2019), which added disaster recovery and migration services; and App Runner (2021), which added a low-code application development platform to the AWS portfolio.

Overall, AWS has played a significant role in the evolution of cloud computing and continues to be a major player in the market.
